Leaving Tomorrow
2005 April 19
Gulp, my flight is tomorrow. Late evening. We would be landing at Mumbai airport at 1030 pm Indian time. My main concern right now is how am I going to drag all 3 kids to the immigration. I’m sure that they would be fast asleep.
After thinking it through, I would make sure that Ashwina wakes up and I make her walk.. Avasha would be in the stroller and I would sling the baby. Maybe some kind soul would take pity on me and lend me a hand.
Our train is booked for the next day. This would be another nightmare. My fil would be going to Bhopal with us and its a 14 hour train ride from Mumbai. I don’t know whats going to happen then..
I would try and log in and keep you guys updated..
Wish me luck
Good luck! Hey when I am traveling in India with my little ones, a micro double stroller is great, until you get on the train.
Have you any experience with the cooleys? Just pay whatever outrageous price they give you to get your things on the train. Once you are on, the kids will have fun. How likely will they sleep on the flight? I don’t know. My kids never fall asleep until at least 10 hours has passed. Your flight will be much quicker, right?
Take back packs for your two little ones who walk. They should have some crayons and coloring books, and some small ready to feed snacks that they can help themselves with, in case you are busy with your baby, nursing or trying to get him to sleep.
That is a good idea for the train too. And, try to find a family to sit with. Don’t allow yourself to be alone. Are you taking food on the train? They serve Indian meals on the trains, but I could hardly eat them worrying about where they came from. Make sure you have plenty of bottled water either from the airport or hotel.
Are you staying in Bhopal? My sil used to live there with her husband. That will be a long train ride, but hopefully it will be an overnight train.
Will you stay in a hotel from the time you arrive in Chennai until you get on your train? That could be a long time. I really like Chola Sheraton in Chennai, and they have shuttle services (a ford escort!!). It was worth it to me to have a place to let the kids play, relax, eat…all inside.
They have a pool, and I am sure your older girl would like it.
Well, I am nervous for you!! ; )
Bon Voyage!

Goodness, I thought you said Chennai. Well at least you don’t have to ride the train from Chennai to Bhopal! I was really nervous for you. At least your fil will be with you. What a difference!
I really hate riding the train alone. I will do it if I have to, but another adult is really helpful!
